Marblehead votes overwhelming in a town wide election to build a new High School at Tents Corner on the Sevinor Land taken for that purpose by imminent domain in the 1970's. Planning and design begins, opening scheduled for 2002.

1633: First mention of the name Marblehead
The first mention of the name "Marblehead" in the Colonial records "July 2, 1633, James White is ffine xxxs for drunkeness by him comitted att Marblehead, on the Sabbath day. John Bennet is ffined xs for being drunke at Marblehead. Their true residency, however, was not established by the records.
