The Marblehead Register, Marblehead's first local paper publishes its first edition. Publisher was Mr. Henry Blaney.

First Town Meeting held in the "new" Town House.

The fire department of Marblehead is first organized, by a vote accepting the gift of Robert Hooper's fire engine, the "Friend," and the establishment of a "Board of Firewards."

Marblehead petitions and wins the right from the General Court to establish a separate jail of its own, to solve the problem of "many strangers and Seafaring men from other parts of the world coming and residing there who often prove ill-minded, disorderly person and disturbers of the peace."
