SUMMARY:1775: British ships terrify residents
DESCRIPTION:HMS Lively\, HMS Nautilus\, and HMS Hinchinbrook appeared off the coast of Marblehead terrifying residents who expected the ships to level the Town as they had in Falmouth\, Maine. Women and children were evacuated and the men manned Fort Sewall\, even though there war no powder. Pretending their guns were armed and ready the Marbleheaders bluffed the British into retreat.
