SUMMARY:1909: First Town football game
DESCRIPTION:The Town’s first football team plays against Ipswich and wins (12-6) with Raymond O. Brackett\, owner of the Rockmere Hotel\, as the head coach\, amid some controversy by parents not wanting their sons to play in such a dangerous contact sport. Brackett argued that the team represented Marblehead’s fighting spirit that created American freedom. George P. Campbell\, the High School’s principal\, was in charge of training the team.
