SUMMARY:1692: Mammy Redd hanged on Gallows Hill
DESCRIPTION:Wilmott “Mammy” Redd hanged on Gallows Hill in Salem on September 22nd as a unconfessed witch during Salem’s sad period of hysteria. Many townspeople witnessed the execution. Margaret Scot was the only other Marblehead resident killed as a witch. It wasn’t until the year 2002 that this horendous act was finally renounced by the Commonwealth.
