SUMMARY:1976: Smith St. Post Offices opens
DESCRIPTION:The “New” Post Office at 27 Smith Street opens to better deal with 13 million pieces of mail for 21\,574 residents. Donald M. Stacey\, current Postmaster was originally appointed in 1954. There are 63 employees (3 women)\, 24 daily mail routes\, five incoming mails and four outgoing mails. The event was commemorated with an Open House and a special Marblehead “cancellation” featuring the signing of the Declaration of Independence by Elbridge Gerry.
