SUMMARY:1861: Marblehead supports the Union
DESCRIPTION:Company C Eighth Regiment Infantry\, USV\, assembled at Faneuil Hall in Boston amid sleet and snow to earn the distinction of being one of the first\, if not the first\, companies from the state to respond to President Abraham Lincoln’s call to protect the Union. The company also rescued USS Constitution from the secessionists\, opened railroad communications for troops between Annapolis and Washington\, and guarded the nation’s capital.
